Super-pup Duke, a mixed breed that the Brousseau family adopted nearly six years ago, is now heralded a hero after it saved his family’s infant daughter.

Having already settled into bed on a Sunday night, Jenna Brousseau and her husband were awakened after Duke jumped onto their bed and began shaking uncontrollably. During an interview with WFSB News, Jenna Brousseau said, “He is insanely obedient, so this was extremely bizarre.”

Loved by the Brousseaus for his docile temperament, Duke’s behavior startled the couple and they quickly understood that something was seriously wrong. Rushing into the bedroom of her 9-week-old daughter, Harper, Jenna realized that her baby was no longer breathing.

Jenna told reporters that her husband had immediately dialed for the ambulance and little girl Harper was luckily revived and taken to the hospital.

Jenna Brousseau said, “If Duke hadn’t been so scared, we would have just gone to sleep.”

Six years ago, Duke was saved when the Brousseaus took him into their family. Now, Jenna will surely remember Duke’s actions that saved baby Harper for the rest of her life, Jenna said, “He’s the perfect dog. He was meant to be ours.”

Coincidentally, the month of October also observes Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog month. Making a positive example out of their experience, the Brousseaus shared their story to inspire others to adopt a shelter dog as well. Someday, the dog you saved might save your family.
