In response to the potential damages in lower Manhattan, Con Edison may even schedule a power shut down for an unspecified length of time. These shutdowns are a preemptive measure against water damage to utility and equipment that may cause more catastrophic damages later on. All Zone A evacuation areas located in Manhattan island's southern tip will be affected by the potential blackout.
Covering all bases, Con Edison also placed automated calling systems to notify homeowners and businesses in the affected area. What's more, the utility company also announced that certain New Yorkers in flood-prone areas of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx will receive potential shut down notifications as well.
Finally, witness the incredible footage of violent explosions coming from a downed transformer in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
