It's worth noting that UFO means unidentified flying object. People are quick to assume all UFOs are of extraterrestrial origin. But, by definition, a UFO is something that is in the sky that cannot be easily identified or explained. And a recent sighting in the Denver area absolutely fits the description.

The object, a small, silver shape that moves at blinding speed, appears in the same area between noon and 1 p.m. almost every day. FOX 31 in Denver, a local news affiliate, was contacted by a man who said he has been filming the object for months. He insisted he remain anonymous and the station, after reviewing his videos with him, decided to send their own camera crew to check it out. Here's what they saw:

As you can see, the object is definitely real and definitely unidentified. FOX 31 contacted the FAA to find out if there has been any unusual activity on local radar systems. The FAA response: "We've checked with air traffic control and no one has had any reports of the activity you described ... nor have any of our employees observed anything of this nature either visually or on their radar displays."

FOX 31 also contacted North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and they also reported no unusual activity on their radars. Of course, it is entirely possible that the object is related to classified military operations in the area and NORAD and the FAA are staying mum on the issue.

This is not the first time a UFO has been sighted near a major American city. On March 13, 1997 thousands of Arizona residents saw a series of lights appear over Phoenix:

Eleven years later, an unidentified man contacted a local news station and said he was responsible for the lights. He claims he created the hoax by attaching road flares to helium balloons and linking them together with fishing line. A neighbor witnessed him launch the balloons and backs up his claim. Aviation experts and government officials suspected flares were responsible, but were often ignored by people wanting to see more.

The Denver UFO, however, is clearly not flares or balloons. It is, and remains, a truly unidentified flying object.
