Annapolis Blackout Power Outage isn't the kind of story to which most readers outside of Maryland's capital would pay much attention, but because the story of the generator explosion that lit up the sky has the added heft of ancient prophecy due to its coincidental occurrence on the December 21, 2012 date of the predicted Mayan Apocalypse, the story has since gone viral, garnering the interest of, at the very least, a national digital audience. According to reports from inside Annapolis this morning, a massive blackout power outage has struck the city, leaving approximately 50,000 residents without power-- but not before lighting up the sky with an amazing, dazzling light show.

Watch video of the major generator explosion that caused the massive Annapolis blackout power outage as it lights up the sky and had its shocked audience crying out that it had something do with the Mayan Apocalypse by clicking below. It's a seriously amazing video; the sort of once-in-a-lifetime, thank-god-someone-was-there-with-a-camera-rolling, see-it-to-believe-it thing that, once you watch it, will have you understanding why it must have felt to the people of Annapolis like the sky was falling during the power outage caused by this generator explosion:

As just about all the media outliers that are covering the story are reporting, it's the timing of this massive Annapolis blackout power outage that is causing the surge in attention. Naturally, had you lost power and been cut off from the news after watching a giant, dazzling explosion in the sky, you'd think-- considering the date-- that this was the Mayan Apocalypse prophecy come true before you thought of the alternatives. While most of Annapolis remained in the dark following the power outage caused by the generator explosion, many residents took to social media to discuss what they thought was happening in their city, and possibly beginning for the rest of the world. Annapolis's Mayor Josh Cohen was one of the people taking to Twitter to ensure that residents affected by the blackout power outage remained calm, especially after seeing the dazzlingly terrifying light show in the sky as depicted in the video.

According to WUSA, the massive Annapolis blackout power outage was caused by BG&E's losing two of their main feeder lines. Their crews have been investigating the cause of the incident, but have not determined what caused the failure that caused the blackout as of time of writing. According to Rachael Lighty, a spokeswoman for Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, a downed high voltage transmission line very close to Bestgate Road is what caused what is now a confirmed 50,000 customers to lose power in the massive blackout, leaving residents of Annapolis, Broadneck, Cape St. Claire, and Severna Park to fend of themselves through the power outage on December 21, 2012. Though most had their power returned by 2:30 AM, discussion continued into the morning due to the Mayan Apocalypse prophecy concerning the earth's doomsday today.
