An 8-year-old, disabled girl was found locked in a cage in New Mexico while her family reportedly went to the movies

The girl's mom, Cindy Patriarchias, was arrested with her boyfriend, Edmond Gonzales, and they were scheduled to appear in court this week, according to FOX News.

Patriarchias was charged with negligently causing child abuse; Gonzales was charged with not preventing the abuse. They were still being held in custody on Tuesday.

Police drove to the mobile home in Las Cruces, New Mexico, after they got a call from Patriarchias' estranged husband saying that his daughter had been left unattended.

Authorities waited for an hour for the couple and other children to return. When they did -- and Patriarchias allowed them into the home -- they found a large wooden cage in the corner of a bedroom. The cage, which was reportedly around 2 1/2-feet wide and 4-feet-tall, had two latches and a tiny mattress inside.

Though there were no visible injuries on the girl in the cage, she was immediately placed into child protective services. Patriarchias and Gonzales are being held on $25,000 cash bonds.

As of Tuesday afternoon, they had not yet entered a plea.
