"Pit Bull" Saves Family From Fire" is the headline coming out of Wellston, Oklahoma after Baby, a 10-year-old dog, saved two sisters and 5 other dogs from a fire that destroyed the family home.

Baby may be 10 years old (that's 70 in dog years), but the pit bull terrier from Lincoln County, Oklahoma proved youthful enough to save Evelyn and Rhonda Westenberger from a fire that destroyed their home. Details are scarce in general, with most information coming from a single TV news report shot by local journalists.

"You'd never know Baby is an old dog," reads an article published by ABC's West Coast news bureau based in Fresno, CA . "Her owners can barely keep up. And, apparently, Baby's mind is just as fast as her feet."

So how did this pit bull save the family from fire? According to ABC, in the early morning on Tuesday, February 11 a fire broke out in the Oklahoma home. The cause of the fire was not reported.

The pit bull saved the family from fire by waking up Rhonda Westenberger by nudging her from sleep. When that didn't work Baby barked loudly until both sisters woke up.

Rhonda's description of the fire the pit bull saved her from is harrowing.

"I went back and there were flames shooting down the hallway," Rhonda said according to ABC. "If baby hadn't woken Evelyn up, I don't think either one of us would have come out of this."

After the pit bull saved the family from fire, helping them out of the house, Baby ran back in to the burning home to save the five other dogs stuck inside.

"Then there was one hiding under the bed, wouldn't come out," said family member Charles Land, according to ABC. "Baby actually went under there, grabbed it by the neck and dragged him outside."

The family was saved by their pit bull, but their house of 17 years has been destroyed along with all their possessions inside.

Thanks to their pit bull for saving the family from fire, though, they are looking on the bright side.

"I'm so proud of her," said Rhonda. "She is my hero. She's the hero for all of us. She's always come across to us as one of the family and this just proves it."
