Sex toys for singers? One vocal coach in Canada has started using vibrators to massage the throats of the singers and actors he works with as part of their vocal therapy, Metro News reports. He said by using sex toys on singers, he helps them project their voices in new ways. But giving sex toys to singers is sure to cause some vibrations among more conservative sects who might find his techniques a bit too unorthodox.

David Ley, a University of Alberta voice coach and a professor in the school's drama department who uses sex toys for the singers and actors he supervises, said he's no physician or therapist, but that the science of massaging the throat to release tension has already been around for a long time. According to Ley, many people are uncomfortable having their throats massaged by a therapist, or even doing it on themselves. So, he came up with an alternative, and demonstrated to his students that a sex toy could be used to achieve the same results.

The Huffington Post reports that Ley has used sex toys on 150 people and said the only side effect he's witnessed is an increase in phlegm.

"I know it's a bit different," Ley told Metro News.

The professor maintains, however, that using sex toys for the singers helps them hit those hard-to-reach notes.

"It relaxes tension in the larynx ... it improves range and projection," he said.

Ley goes on to describe how he came up with the idea of using sex toys for singers and actors. According to Ley, a friend who had lost her voice approached him one day and said she was having trouble and needed to fix her voice before her upcoming performance.

Ley said: "There was so much tension there." And he wondered: "Where would you find a strong, handheld, very powerful vibrator?"

Ley said he and his friend made a trip to the "love shop" and that: "After one session, it really released a lot of tension in her throat."
