Man Tattoos Pit Bull 'Duchess': Proud Owner Or Abuser? [VIDEO]
A man tattoos his pit bull Duchess, causing an alarming amount of controversy regarding the infliction of unnecessary pain to an animal.
North Carolina tattoo artist Ernesto Rodriguez claims the tattoo was meant to indicate his devotion to his dog. The tattoo was a shield that represents his 5-month-old pit bull's bloodline. What's more, the tattoo was meant to identify her. In fact, his Duchess is not the first to receive a tattoo. " They both have it. They both have their tattoos on them just in case something happens to them."

"What do they do when they brand animals and tattoo horses on their ear and brand their cow? You're not abusing them. You're just protecting them so they don't get lost," Rodriguez told WWII-12 television.
"I'm an artist. I want to put art on my dog. She was already asleep so I took advantage of that," he said.
Despite the outcry from animal rights activists, no former charges have been filed against Rodriguez.
"According to the welfare statutes, you can't have unjustifiable pain and suffering, and I think that falls under this situation," argued local animal welfare advocate Caleb Scott.
Sticking to his guns, Rodriguez explained that dog tattoos are actually quite common.
"If you go on Google and type up dog tattoos, you'll get a thousand images of dogs tattooed. This has been going on for years," told Rodriguez.
