There, Sparks and his current girlfriend, 17-year-old Samia Jones, jumped the victim. Boston.com reports that Sparks held the victim down while Jones, wielding a 12-inch butcher's knife, repeatedly stabbed her, piercing her six times in the torso, face, back and leg as her baby lay in a stroller nearby. Prosecutors would later say that the blade punctured Barros' spleen and liver.
The victim managed to make it to a nearby ice cream shop for help and was taken to Boston Medical Center for surgery, The Daily Mail reports.
Police followed a trail of blood from the scene of the crime which led them to Jones' apartment. There they arrested Jones, who is now in police custody and has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to murder, according to The Boston Globe. Jones is being held on $50,000 cash bail.
According to the Daily Mail, Jones made obscene gestures towards reporters during her hearing, even sticking out her tongue.
Police are in pursuit of Sparks, who has yet to be taken into custody. Jones and Sparks also have a 4-months-old child together.
