Authorities are investigating the deaths of four people shot in a basement of a housing project in Akron, Ohio on Thursday. The victims, who remain unidentified, were found in the basement of the Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority, all of them dead from gunshot wounds to the head. The four shot in the basement were two male and two female victims in their 20s, and, although police have not released their names, family members identified the victims as Ronald Roberts, 24; Maria Nash, 19 and Kem Delaney, 23. Roberts' family said his girlfriend, Kiana "Kiki" Welch, is the fourth person dead.

"All I know at this point is that my son is dead, and I don't know why. My son had no enemies. What happened here is senseless," April Roberts told The Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

Lt. Rick Edwards, a police spokesman, said names could not be confirmed because several individuals claiming to be family members approached police earlier -- but a positive identification of the four shot in the basement could not be confirmed by the medical examiner's office until today. Edwards said there is no motive nor any suspects. Police say they have not found a weapon, and investigators are canvassing the neighborhood and searching for shell casings and witnesses.

Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority executive director Tony O'Leary told the AP that the units where the victims were shot are located near a shopping mall, and rarely see the kind of crime associated with other public housing buildings.

"It's certainly not what some people see as a typical public housing unit," he said.

Another neighbor, Aaron Coleman, told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that he's lived in the neighborhood for years and has never heard of a crime like the four shot in the basement before.

"I only live two blocks away, and I run or walk in this neighborhood every day," he said. "I never thought I'd see a day or a crime like this in this neighborhood. Never."
