A Stoneham shooting left one person dead and another injured. The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Joseph Puopolo, a U.S. Army veteran who was just returning from Afghanistan and even survived a land mine explosion that left another soldier wounded. Another man was wounded in the Stoneham shooting, which occurred around 1:30 in the morning on Wednesday. He was taken away in an ambulance.

"He had a whole future ahead of him,'' Puopolo's godfather, Joseph Allessandro, told the Boston Globe. "I saw this boy grow up; he loved me like his own father. I loved him dearly."

WCBV News Center reports that three people were taken into custody after policemen with canines combed the area looking for suspects. The house was swarming with ambulances and policemen later in the day. Police say they arrested three people over night.

The fatal Stoneham shooting incident took place on a small cul-de-sac of newer, large homes on Micah's Pond Way in Stoneham, a town nine miles north of downtown Boston, Mass. From Examiner:

The motive of the shooting is unclear, but police believe that "this was not a random shooting." There's no word on the condition of the other man who was shot.

John Atwater for WCVB reports:

Stoneham, Mass. was the scene of another Boston tragedy back in April. The funeral for Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer Sean Collier, who was killed during a shootout with Boston Marathon bombing brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was held in Stoneham on April 23.
