Terry Smith, missing austistic 11-year-old of Menifee, triggered a massive four-day search as the community cooperated with the authorities to help the Smith family find their son. More than 1,000 law enforcement, including hundreds of volunteers searchers, have searched across an 80 mile radius around Terry Smith's home in Menifee, California, a small city of 80,000. Temperatures have exceeded 100 degrees everyday over the four-day search. Eventually, a shocking discovery of an unidentified body was made in the backyard of the family of the missing boy. Skylor Atilano, Terry's 16-year-old half-brother, is arrested on suspicion of murder.

Young Terry Smith had been missing since Saturday, July 6. At the time, Terry, who also answered to "Juju," was under the care of his half-brother, Skylor Atilano. According to Atilano, Terry had followed him out of the home while he was on his way to a friend's house. A police spokesperson said the teen was highly cooperative with the authorities, informing them that he was "walking away from their residence, turns back, sees that Terry's following him and tells Terry, 'Hey, go home.'" Skylor Atilano was the last person to see Terry Smith before he went missing.

Following a desperate four-day search, police responded to a tip about a body early Wednesday. The dead body was discovered in a small hole by the tree merely 75 feet from the house. Human remains were partially exposed from the shallow grave. The body of the young boy fit the desciption of Terry Smith and Menifee police Chief John Hill determined the death is a result of a domestic issue at the house. The body has not been identified as Terry Smith.

A shocking twist to the Terry Smith search, authorities say that 16-year-old half brother Skylor Atilano, who shares the same mother, Shawna Smith, as Terry, had been cooperative throughout the whole ordeal. Skylor Atilano had been “questioned several times by investigators,” officials said.

Skylor Atilano is arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of Terry Smith. A bizarre shift from a missing child to a murder case, NBC4 reached out to Terry Smith, Sr., the father of the missing boy presumed dead. Smith Sr. said he was not surprised of the arrest as his son had feared the 16-year-old half brother, who is said to have anger issues.
