Witnesses reported seeing bodies strewn on the tracks. At least 24 bodies were seen covered with blankets. One reporter said all the carriages had derailed. Another witness said there was an explosion before the train left the tracks.
"It was going so quickly ... It seems that on a curve the train started to twist and the wagons piled up one on top of the other," one passenger told Cadena Ser radio station. "A lot of people were squashed on the bottom."
He added: "We tried to squeeze out of the bottom of the wagons to get out and we realized the train was burning ... I was in the second wagon and there was fire ... I saw corpses."
The train crash in Spain happened while the train was en route from Madrid to the port city of Ferrol. It is still unclear what exactly happened or why the train crash in Spain occurred.
