A skydiver hit a player during a summer league baseball game in Missouri. Shortstop Mattingly Romanin, 20, took a surprising kick to the face when a parachutist smashed into him during a pregame stunt gone awry. The incident took place at the historic Clemens Field, Mark Twain's hometown ballpark in Hannibal, Mo., about 100 miles north of St. Louis. Romanin suffered a concussion, and won't be able to play the rest of the season after the skydiver hit the player.

"Obviously I was a little upset and kind of frustrated about how the whole situation developed," Romanin told AP of the skydiver incident. "It was a freak accident. It happens. There's nothing really I can do, I've just got to move on and make sure I'm healthy and ready to play."

The player, who is from Ontario, Canada, plays for Missouri's Hannibal Cavemen, a summer minor league team. On Saturday, July 20, during a game against a team from Indiana, Romanin and the other players were on the field before the game while the National Anthem played and three skydivers parachuted onto the field. According to Romanin, the players were told to stand still and that the skydivers would miss them. The first skydiver landed without incident, as did the third. The second one, however, came in hot, and instead of missing the players as was promised, the skydiver hit the players, kicking Romanin right in the face and sending him to the ground.

In video footage captured during the game, the second skydiver, harnessed to a red, white and blue-striped parachute, is seen coming in for a landing on the field, and heads right for a group of three players standing next to second base. Instead of touching down on the grass, the skydiver hits the player square in the face.

"3 skydivers were part of the pre-game ceremonies at a recent baseball game," YouTube user sbjones20061 wrote of the video. "After the first one landed, I decided to video the next one which took out the player. The 3rd one landed just fine. Please note, the baseball player was okay and stayed in the game."

The player tweeted Sunday: "I feel like I got kicked in the face yesterday, oh wait..."

Romanin later tweeted that he had a "pretty good" headache and that his neck was stiff.

Romanin reportedly suffered a concussion, and will be out for the rest of the season.
