According to KSWO, the Wagoner jail escape occurred after the two men jumped the guard and stole the jailer's keys, locking him in one of the jail cells. Fortunately, he was unharmed, but the two men were able to escape. The Wagoner jail escape happened around 9 p.m. Monday night.
According to AP, Cotton was in jail awaiting trial on several charges, including endangering others while fleeing the police in a stolen vehicle. Staggs was also awaiting trial for charges of weapon possession and having a stolen vehicle.
On Tuesday morning, Cotton was arrested in a vacant apartment after someone tipped off the Sheriff's department. Later on, Staggs was found walking along Highway 51, also following a tip.
Newsmax reports that officers searched for the two fugitives overnight. The jail was placed on lockdown after the escape, and investigators pored over Cotton and Staggs' phone records to try and locate where they might be headed.
