A beef recall for 50,000 pounds of ground beef has been issued by a Kansas company over fears of E. coli contamination.

The beef recall affects products put out by The National Beef Packing Co., whose ground beef is shipped all around the nation.

While there have been no reported cases of anyone getting ill, the U.S. Department of Agriculture warns that the ground beef may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

E. coli is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration. Kidney failure can result from the worst E. coli cases. People with weak immune systems, as well as the very young and old, are particularly susceptible to illness.

"This recall is voluntary," National Beef said in a statement. "We are working closely with authorities to investigate this matter and are contacting our customers who have purchased this product."

It's not clear whether the ground beef affected by the beef recall was sold at retail.

This is the second time in recent months that National Beef has issued a beef recall. In June, the company recalled about 22,700 pounds of ground beef.

National Beef says the meat affected by the beef recall are 50,100 pounds of ground beef produced on July 18, 2013 with a use by/freeze by date of August 7, 2013.

In a press release issued by the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service, the agency warns that the following products (a chub is a type of flexible packaging) are subject to the beef recall:
